"Coach Nick was pivotal in transforming our athlete's game from average to Division One GREATNESS. His positive impact on the mental side of football through film study and chalk talk led to confident, quick decision-making under intense pressure on and off the field."
"Coach Nick took me from a tentative young JV player to a confident QB and team captain. He took my football IQ, leadership, decision-making, preparation, and self-belief to a whole new level. I would not be where I'm at today without Coach Nick and his football mind."
"The mental training Coach Nick provided went beyond game performance — it prepared our athlete to be well-versed when analyzing X's and O's with college recruiters and offensive coordinators. With Coach Nick's support, our athlete landed multiple Division One scholarship offers."
"Physical talent can only take you so far. The mental game — your Football IQ — is the separator. Every elite player I've worked with has one thing in common: they see the game at a high level, and that gives them a major leg up on the competition."

My coaching journey began in Oregon State's video room, where I developed a deep appreciation for the analytical side of football. Breaking down film at the college level gave me a foundation in the technical intricacies of the game that would shape everything that followed. It was here that the concept of "teach tape" — using film as a teaching tool — first took root.
Coaching in the Big Ten at Nebraska elevated every aspect of my football knowledge. Working alongside coaches at the highest level of college football, I refined my understanding of offensive systems, defensive coverage structures, and the mental preparation required to compete at an elite level. The analytical rigor of Big Ten football directly informs the film study curriculum I bring to Teach Tape Academy today.
Working at Steve Clarkson's QB Retreat — one of the most prestigious quarterback development programs in the country — exposed me to elite QB training at the highest level. Working alongside some of the nation's top prospects reinforced my belief that football IQ is the great separator. The mental reps matter as much as the physical ones.
As a Senior Data Analyst at Pro Football Focus, I spent thousands of hours grading and analyzing NFL film at a granular level. Every snap. Every coverage. Every route. This experience gave me an analytical framework for evaluating football that goes far beyond what most coaches ever develop — and it's the foundation of how I teach coverage identification and defensive recognition at Teach Tape Academy.
Since joining Lake Oswego High School in 2020, I've brought everything I learned at the college and professional level to the high school game. In 2025, we won the Oregon 6A State Championship. More importantly, the film study methods and mental training I've implemented have produced multiple Division I quarterbacks — including a 6A Gatorade Player of the Year. Winning at the highest level starts with the mental game.
My philosophy is simple: teach defense first so quarterbacks can process offense faster. When a QB understands what a defense is trying to do — their coverages, their disguises, their tendencies — everything on the offensive side of the ball becomes easier. Faster decisions. More confident throws. Better outcomes.
Physical talent can only take you so far. The mental game — your Football IQ — is the separator. Every elite player I've worked with has one thing in common: they see the game at a high level, and that gives them a major leg up on the competition.
Since my early coaching days, I've been creating "teach tape" — film cutups designed to develop football IQ. These college-level teaching techniques, now adapted for high school and youth athletes, help players at every position understand football from the QB's perspective. Whether you're a quarterback or play any other position, learning to see the game like a QB elevates your football IQ and overall performance.
At Teach Tape Academy, we teach players how to see, think, and dominate the game from the inside out. Whether you're pursuing a college scholarship or simply want to master the mental side of football, our proven film study techniques and mental training methods will transform how you understand and play the game. Because when you master the mental game, your physical abilities finally have the chance to shine.
